The Doctors

Dr. Fearon

Dr. Fearon

Dr. Fearon was born in the United States but grew up outside of London, England, before his family moved back to the U.S, eventually settling in Connecticut. After graduating from the Mt. Hermon School in upstate Massachusetts, he received a B.A. from Brown University, pursued post-baccalaureate studies in science at Columbia University, and attended the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Fearon completed a full six-year general surgery residency with the Deaconess/Harvard Fifth surgical service, followed by a plastic surgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, also associated with Harvard Medical School. After completing a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with the University of Pennsylvania, he joined the Dallas Craniofacial Center as a director.

Dr. Fearon’s practice is focused on the treatment of rare birth defects in children, who travel to Dallas from across the United States, as well internationally. Having worked in a focused craniofacial practice for more than 30 years, he has gained an unparalleled experience performing complex surgical procedures, especially caring for children who have received treatment elsewhere with results that fell short of expectations.

Dr. Fearon remains actively engaged in craniofacial research, has authored numerous book chapters, and has published over 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles (with a current H-index of 38, per Google Scholar). He is a former Associate Editor for the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is a member of the Robert M. Goldwyn Guild for having completed over 1,000 peer reviews. Dr. Fearon is a president emeritus of both the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Craniofacial Surgeons. He has also been awarded a U.S. patent for a craniofacial bone distraction device. In addition to having served on several community boards, he is an amateur sculptor, enjoys helicopter skiing, and remains an avid surfer.

He then studied at the University of Cambridge in England prior to attending medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine, where he earned the distinction of Medical Humanities Scholar. Dr. Coombs subsequently completed a 6-year integrated plastic surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic, in Cleveland, Ohio. During this time, he was involved in over 4,200 procedures spanning the breadth of reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. As a Chief Resident, Dr. Coombs was selected to pilot the Cleveland Clinic Focused Subspecialty Training in Plastic Surgery Program (akin to an embedded fellowship in facial aesthetic surgery). Following graduation from residency, Dr. Coombs secured his top choice for craniofacial surgery fellowship at the Dallas Craniofacial Center. After completing this additional year of advanced subspecialty training, he was invited to stay on and join Dr. Fearon in practice and is honored for the opportunity to treat patients with rare birth differences at our Center.

Dr. Coombs maintains a steady commitment to research, and the number of his peer-reviewed scientific articles, book chapters, and presentations exceeds 100. He is a frequent reviewer of articles submitted for publication in the Pediatric & Craniofacial Surgery section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which is considered to be the preeminent journal for this specialty. Dr. Coombs is also a member of multiple craniofacial and plastic surgery professional societies, and in his spare time, enjoys racquet sports, golf, alpine skiing, traveling with his wife, and relaxing with their dogs alongside a new book.
